The Climb of a Lifetime: Mount Rainier!

Join Jansport Packs on a summit attempt up Mt Rainier; you bet!
Located about an hour from Seattle, it is considered one of the world’s most dangerous volcanoes. Surrounded by 26 glaciers, the summit is an impressive 14,411 ft. making it the highest in the Cascade Range. Wow, my mind went into overdrive. What do I do first?  After asking for time off of course, starting a training regime and taking stock of what I have for gear seemed the next logical steps.

After rummaging through my closet, I realized I was in pretty good shape for equipment. Years in the industry have enabled me to accumulate more toys than I probably need.  I will need to rent some heavy boots and crampons, but was able to purchase the couple of things that will complete my required gear list.  Now the hard part, training.  I always find it amazing how quickly I can get “out” of shape, and how hard it is to get back “into” it! With only two and a half months left, I am trying to be as active as possible. I have started running 3-5 miles at a time, and a light weight lifting regimen.  Perhaps the best exercise I’m getting now is chasing my two 5-year old boys around.  Stay tuned to see how my new adventure advances …
