The Climb of a Lifetime: Mount Rainier!
Join Jansport Packs on a summit attempt up Mt Rainier; you bet! Located about an hour from Seattle, it is considered one of the world’s most dangerous volcanoes. Surrounded by 26 glaciers, the summit is an impressive 14,411 ft. making it the highest in the Cascade Range. Wow, my mind went into overdrive. What do I do first? After asking for time off of course, starting a training regime and taking stock of what I have for gear seemed the next logical steps.

Mount Rainier: Wrap-Up
Finally….. Landing in Seattle with a bus ready to drive us to Ashford , WA for a meeting at IMG Headquarters, located just outside the park. The afternoon started with a basic gear check and rental. Most participants had everything, and most common occurrence was getting bigger gaiters. After a quick dinner at a local Nepalese restaurant, we checked into the Paradise Inn for the night. My kind of place; no TV’s, phones, or computers. Built in 1899, it still looks the same for over a century.

Mount Rainier Update:
With roughly two weeks to go, it’s time to get serious! Unfortunately, I let my training regimen slide a little bit around Memorial Day weekend. All those grilled steaks & cheeseburgers got the best of me, but I bounced back with a 7 mile hike on Saturday; part of North Cove Outfitters National Trails Day event. Our group hiked the Chatfield Trail in Killingworth off of Route 80. A relatively flat hike, it did offer a couple of steep rock scrambles. I’m continuing my weight-lifting routine, and plan on running 4 miles today after work. Now, if I could only do something about the heat and humidity the next few days …
