Casual Footwear:

North Cove Outfitters sells a lot of hiking boots and shoes,but we are also known for our “casual” side in the footwear dept. Brands like Ariat, Clark, Dansko, and Ugg represent a few of the manufacturers we stock. When it gets cold out, we kick out the boots. North Cove Outfitters proudly has several styles of tall boots for the female customers.  Last year, we had tremendous success with boots from Clark, and of course October – January is a feeding frenzy at our store.

Choosing Hiking Footwear:

Whether it’s hiking boots or walking shoes, there are a few things you should be aware of when choosing footwear.  Follow these tips:

1. Shop mid to late afternoon.  Your foot will swell a bit from the day and this is the best time to obtain a proper fit.

2. Bring appropriate socks with you, or buy some at the store. (Wool or synthetics preferred; no cotton socks!!)

3. Ask to be measured on a “Brannock Device.”  It’s a good starting point to determine correct size & fit.

4. Try on at least three different models of footwear. This will enable you to really understand what fits and what does not.

5. Wear your shoes at home over the next couple hours to ensure a good fit and proper break in.  If you only wear them on the rug and wood and you save the box, we will allow you to return them and try something else.
