How to Choose A Backpack Like a pair of boots, today’s backpacks have to be "fitted" to the wearer. The frame size, waistbelt size, and harness size can all actually be different, depending on the model. When choosing backpacks for hiking & camping,
1. How many cubic inches will you need? Will you be carrying just your gear, or others? 2. How outdated is your gear? If you have bulky equipment, it will also dictate how much space you will need in your pack. 3. Have your torso measured. The proper frame size is determined by the length of your back in inches from your C7 vertebrae (bony protrusion in back of the neck) to the top/middle of your hip crest. 4. Study the features of different packs. Other then fit, packs mostly differ in features. Whether it’s extra pockets or loops & daisy chains for attachments, figure out what you need. |
